The deer circle and fold among the oaks of the forest, their eyes shining in the moon. There is nothing but sifting among the maples and the sharp echo of a branch breaking. The otchock is in its lair sleeping and listening in its sleep to hear if a shadow should fall above or if a footfall should drift into its dream of...

Water to Fall” by Adel Gorgy Autumn . . . colors awake as the trees begin to fall to sleep. Leaves shake with the breezes turned to coming winter winds. Mauve and green and yellow striate the remains of Indian Summer. October captures the last rays of gold. —Stanley H. Barkan (October 16, 2011)

All day light falls until shadows fall with the failing west. Then a yellow flare fires the clouds over the lake, sets the waves afire. Upon the shore the boats lie among the voices of children skipping stones over the water; the moon skims into the east washing silver into the wood, shadow into the stone —...

The storm is brewing: Turn, Tide, Turn The storm is abating: Small terns are soaring. Daylight approaches: The ocean is my face. My mirror is the sea: Silence. The...

Cross-Cultural Communications Art & Poetry Series Broadside LATE FALL AT ROSLYN POND from the Portfolio “Rhythms . . . Water to Fall” by Adel Gorgy Plastered on the wind merging with the pond, all the birch, maple, and oak leaves— reddish, brown, yellow, dark green— end of Autumn saga. Soon the trees will be bare branched, and the snow and ice will dominate. But, for now, just the joy of leaves. —Stanley H. Barkan (October 16, 2011)

INFINITY Infinity can travel linger in the present and wander into the future, returning to give advice on how to conduct ourselves in the present with hindsight and foresight. Think of the mistakes I could avoid: present future (those past are too late). Yet I’d rather be foolish and do without the perspective Infinity can bring, make my mistakes as usual and face the consequences like everyone else. AERONWY THOMAS
